A boil is an inflammatory formation having its starting point in a sebaceous-gland, sweat-gland, or hair-follicle.

It is a comparatively painless operation and free from scarring if the hair follicle be not penetrated by the needle.

A boil results when the infection is located in a hair follicle or sebaceous gland.

During this time it is not buried in the skin but is able to retreat rapidly into it through a hair follicle or sweat gland.

It crawls to the base of the hair and burrows into the hair follicle.
